Rape in Victoria

Wednesday, November 14, 2012 - 13:48 - Republished from www.victimsofcrime.com.au

In the 2011-2012 Victoria Police recorded more than 8300 cases of rape and sexual assault.

According to data from the Australian Centre for the Study of Sexual Assault CASA) only one in six women attacked report it to authorities.

This would suggest that there are around 50,000 victims of rape and sexual assault in Victoria annually, around 1000 per week.

The other alarming statistic is the very high number of victims who do not report their rape and sexual assault to police.
